Thursday, July 10, 2025, Amendroz Island

The sleep score was up to 84 last night. What a difference when I'm not fretting about travel, current or something else. About 3:00 I got the distinct smell of a campfire. I was surprised because it seems we are totally alone out here. I looked out to see if I could spot a campfire, but could not.  Were my not fully awake senses playing a trick on me? Not sure. It seemed real. The wind shifted to the North and picked up a little about 4:30 as waves started nosily slapping on the hull.

Morning in Amendroz

Annie was covered by about 10,000,000 little bugs this morning. So many, that I forced myself to get the wash down hoses out and squirt them off. I usually don't do it because it gets the windows all wet and then I have to wipe them off. But too many bugs to live with all day.

Peter counted out his donuts today so we had no more problems like occurred yesterday. As we had our coffees cappuccinos and donuts we watched videos on how to clean bass and northern pike. Afterwards we set off fishing. Last year we had great success here. This year, not so much. We had a couple of near misses where we got nice fish to the boat, but watched them escape. At the end of the outing we did get one in the bucket, but let him go while he was still alive. We were done fishing by then. Peter did win  $1C for the first fish.

You better zoom in to see this fish!

Kerry made a nice egg salad sandwich for lunch. Then she borrowed a bucket and brush and took off to clean the bathroom and V-berth fiberglass. About 3:00 though, she got sick again. Really bad this time. She barfed for a long time and then went to bed. She felt really good this morning.

We had a nice agenda planned for the day. At 4:00 I would grill ribs. At 5:00 we were meeting Peter and Marianna for a dinghy cocktail hour float down in the harbor. At 6;00 we were going to separate and take dinghy rides of the harbor. We would eat our ribs once we returned to Annie.

Instead, we postponed the dingy cocktail hour until tomorrow. I packed up the ribs to eat tomorrow. But Kerry insisted I eat some now as she said she would not be eating pork today or tomorrow. I ate a couple and saved some for tomorrow hoping she will want one or two.

I was hot after cooking in the sun. A trip down the swim ladder was just as refreshing today as it was yesterday. The water is actually a comfortable temperature. I sat out and smoked a cigar after my solo dinner. It's been a disappointing ending to an otherwise wonderful day. Kerry is sleeping soundly now. I sure hope she is feeling better tomorrow. If she wakes up well I'll try to get her on a dinghy ride around the harbor before it gets too hot.

The wind has switched to the SE which means it is coming over the land.  Since we are only 60 yards from the shore we should have avery quiet evening without waves slapping on the hull. One small sailboat did come in this afternoon. But he anchored in the premier spot in the secluded cove so we are invisible to each other.

Our plans now are to stay here tomorrow. On Saturday we will go to Gore Bay about 17 miles away. Gore Bay is a super little town with a great grocery, hardware store and downtown. Our shopping lists are already made. Marianna has theater tickets for us on Saturday night. We love to attend the summer theater plays they have here.
