Tuesday, July 22, 2025, Gore Bay

This morning I flipped on Annie's electric heater before I made my coffee. It was 56 degrees in the main cabin. Brrr. Then I checked today's weather to see if the forecast had changed and a trip across the Straights of Mackinac would be possible. The forecast had changed, but for the worse. Now there was a high wind warning for Northern Lake Huron. Finally I made my coffee.

15-25 MPH winds are forecast for tomorrow and storms also on Thursday. I'm not sure it makes sense to leave here and go out to anchor. I'm not wild about spending three more nights here, but that might just be the best strategy. I'll get the first mates opinion in a couple of hours. Gore Bay is a nice place to be weathered in, and we could do some bike riding which would be fun.

I got a text from Big Jim saying I should be grateful that the fisherman who gave us the fish did not have the same catch and release plan that Peter and I have. That's for sure. And, after we had that delicious fish, Peter and I may reevaluate our plan.

Reminder - the entries are in for Photo Contest 8, Reflections. Please see separate post and choose your favorite. Jimbo and Jola are judging.

I tempted Kerry out of bed by offering to take her for breakfast. We went to Codmother's and had a nice breakfast, cooked just the way we requested. They were not open yet when we arrived so we shopped until 11:00 when they opened. Kerry was fine with spending three days here. I paid for two nights to leave our options open,  I'll evaluate the weather and pay for Thursday tomorrow if need be.

We love to bike ride when we are here. So we unpacked the bikes and headed off for the Janet Head Lighthouse. It was a very pleasant 1/2 hour bike ride each way. It was Kerry's first ride of the trip. Kerry tried to establish a new fashion statement with her headgear. I feel positive it will catch on.

Once at the lighthouse Kerry challenged me to a photo contest. I took the typical boring tourist shot. Kerry found a much more interesting angle - the outhouse at the lighthouse!

The Outhouse at the Lighthouse

While at Janet Head beach we found evidence of prior civilizations.

I had planned to grill hamburgers tonight, but it was pretty breezy, so I cooked them inside instead. We made bacon cheeseburgers actually which were quite good.

Peter and Marianna came in about 5:30. They spent the day at anchor alone in Gwynne Bay and motored over late afternoon. Once they were settled, Peter stopped in to say hello and coordinate our morning cappuccinos. There appears to be another Helmsman boat here and he and Marianna were off to see if they could meet the owners.

Not much happened until bedtime. I read and took a little walk. Kerry worked on the computer.
