Photo Contest 4, 4th of July Food

The Fourth Photo Contest was title 4th of July Food.  There were 4 entries in this competition and the judge was Marty Fred.

The photographers for each picture are not known to our judges.

Entry #1:  Peter Orro- Star Spangles

The salt and pepper shakers are truly a stylized and artistic photo!  Two essential table companions placed  to create a quiet, familiar moment that is simple, functional, and a little nostalgic. The angle, neither straight on nor from above  is particularly appealing to the eye and  captures the unique features of the topic .Blurring the background might keep the focus on the shakers however, the reflection of red might have been lost.  A few grains of salt and pepper spilled around them would have added texture and realism to the images! Overall:  Pass the salt please!

Entry #2:  Kerry Albanese- The Pig Out Bacon, Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato Hamburger

This hamburger platter screams “come and get it!”  It truly shows a classic, mouthwatering stack of savory ingredients placed in an eye-appealable order!  Slightly titled appears to be deliberate and perfectly displays each individual item.  The patty looks as though it was grilled to perfection and the slight char marks provided interesting detail as does the crisp bacon and fresh lettuce.  Adding chips and baked beans creates balance on the plate.  The other picnic items in the background do not seem particularly intentional but aren’t distracting either.  Overall: Perfect for anyone’s picnic cravings!

Entry #3: Maryanne Orro Gourmet Delicacies

Marianna
The fresh ingredients appear to be carefully arranged with an eye to color, texture and balance!  The crisp lettuce leaves are layered in varying shades of green.  Carefully intertwined are  delicate ribbons of red cabbage adding both contrast and a hint of earthiness.  The vinaigrette drizzle seems to be deliberate but artfully added to provide visual movement to the photo. In the accompanying dish, the items are not piled by composed, clearly placed with intention.  The red cabbage is reintroduced causing  enhanced balance and repetition.  The  overall balance of the photo would be improved with one more lettuce leaf at the bottom.  Overall:  An eye-pleasing arrangement of food!

WINNER:  CONTEST #4   DON ALBANESE
Entry #4:  The Essence of a 4th of July Picnic Dinner

Don

The deconstructed hamburger presents all the classic components of a traditional burger but arranging the items separately adds an artistic upscale modern twist!  Both the crisp strips of bacon and rings of onion are creatively placed, to add dimension to the presentation.  The shot from above angle and the fork and knife purposefully anchor the table setting.  The two blue items at the top of the photo are unidentifiable and distracting.  Overall:  Although the deconstructed burger is an invitation to experience each element distinctly, stacking them is OK too! Beautiful Plate of Food
