This Was To Be A Different Year
This was to be a different year, and it was. Since the big old maple tree that Annie docked under was cut down last fall, I decided to launch Annie 3 weeks earlier than normal, hoping that we could anchor out at East Harbor before Memorial Day. With that tree gone, none of the normal tree dirt would be falling on Annie.
Well, the weather this year turned out to be horrible and we did not get to travel in Annie even once before Memorial Day. And it got even worse. We had to move out of our normal dock because of dredging in the channel. We moved down to the very end of the lagoon which turned out to be pretty much a sewer at times. Then, the decision was made (not by me) to allow the dredger to use our wonderful dock until they were finished dredging the entire lagoons area, so we had to stay in this temporary dock the entire Spring.
We are still in this dock even as we prepare to leave Vermilion for the North Channel tomorrow. Here is Annie decked out in her Memorial Day finest in that dock.
The weekend after Memorial Day we finally got to take a cruise. our traditional shake down cruise to Put In Bay with the Akron Sail and Power Squadron. We had a great time and Annie performed perfectly. The weather was a bit rainey for the weekend, but managed to give us a beautiful Saturday. We took the opportunity to visit The Keys and enjoy a couple of Bushwackers with our friends Greg and Sue Arnold.

It was special sight when the Goodyear Blimp decided to fly over the Monument. |
We brought a whole car full of stuff to load on Annie for our North Channel trip, including our bikes. It was the second major load of stuff. I told Kerry we are still packing like we have our 41' sailboat, Excalibur, even though we have much smaller Annie now.
